GET A COACH

Doug Sullivan

Coach / Branch Manager

“The best competition I have is against myself, to become better”

– John Wooden

Philosophy

Doug’s commitment to himself is to view challenges as an opportunity to grow. As an entrepreneur and athlete, he deeply appreciates the mentors and coaches who have helped him identify the changes he could make to effect major shifts in his life. He believes that looking outside, comparing one’s actions to those of others and learning from experts is essential to getting you on the path to where you want to go, but knowing why you want to go, and who you want to be while on that path…now that is an inside job. Having learned how to drum starting at the ripe young age of five, Doug says “I have always felt that finding a rhythm to life is what helps me prosper both personally & professionally, and the core of that rhythm comes from within. You have to go internal and feel it. Once you do, then the next step is to let that light shine brightly out into the world in a way that brings you joy and turns life into an enriching, glorious, and grand experience.”

Background

With over 30 years of experience, Doug has had great success in running a mortgage business.  Along with guiding his team through the nuances of the ever-changing mortgage industry, he has focused on perfecting the art of the work–life balance.  “I find great joy in leading a life that both serves my clients and allows me to do the things that nourish my soul.”

Growing up in Fort Collins, Colorado, Doug lived a life full of activity.  Sports and recreation dominated his time outside of the classroom spending endless hours on both the tennis & basketball courts.  Following his journey as a Nationally ranked junior tennis player, he continued competing as a collegiate basketball player.  A natural teacher, his coaching career unofficially began in the mid-80’s as he spent his summers leading a youth tennis team that travelled and competed in New England.

Following college, he started his classic mountain town story by moving to Summit County, Colorado and spent a winter as a ski bum, and he has not left the area since.  Doug’s mountain life evolved from fly-fishing & skiing during the day, while working as a Manager at Copper Mountain Resort by night, to immersing himself in the mortgage industry starting in 1992.  He specializes in helping clients realize their dreams of home ownership in a resort area.

Doug places a high value on giving back to his community. He feels blessed to live a life in which he can work hard and play hard in Colorado’s backcountry and wants others to have that option as well. He was an active board member of the Summit County Housing Authority for 15 years. As chairman he led the initiative that secured long term funding options in an effort to help locals live in the towns in which they work.

He was elected as a board member of the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center in 2000 and spent the next decade contributing to their mission of expanding the potential of people with disabilities and special needs through meaningful educational and inspiring outdoor experiences.

Doug lives at 9000 feet in Frisco, Colorado with his beautiful partner-in-adventure, Jolina Karen, where they enjoy all that the wonderful high country has to offer.
They both love traveling and regularly spend time in her homeland of South Africa.
